Our New Shelter and Hospital Fundraiser Has Begun!

Another month has raced by, so fast that we are a bit late with our monthly update! April has been filled with both great achievements and the inevitable setbacks of rescue work.

We are delighted to be officially launching our fundraiser for the New Villa Kitty Shelter and Hospital. You can read the purrrspectus here (New Villa Kitty Shelter and Hospital Prospectus).

We are gratified by the progress and seeing our future haven gradually come to life, but we are cautious in our celebrations as there is still a laborious road ahead of us. And we have again been burdened by many lives lost due to the panleukopenia virus, despite striving to save as many as we could – we must move into the new nursery as soon as possible to eliminate outbreaks.

The fallout from the pandemic continues, with record numbers of animals still arriving at the shelter. Kittens are still being stolen from their mothers and dumped, and cats and kittens are still being abandoned, injured and left to suffer. But despite being at capacity, we simply cannot turn away from suffering cats and kittens. After all, Villa Kitty was borne out of a need to provide aid to those souls that others had turned away.

The mission of cruelty prevention is long and difficult, but we are seeing change. For instance, we have been overwhelmed with requests for sterilisations and are booked out until mid June, with requests still coming in daily. We cannot wait until we are in the new hospital where we will be able to significantly expand our sterilisation program.

We are also counting down the hours until the new nursery becomes fully functional and we can permanently relocate our kittens to the new site. This will be a massive step in saving little lives, as we are beleaguered by deaths due to the panleukopenia virus. Villa Kitty employs strict vaccination and disinfection protocols, but we fear that the lack of proper quarantine, social distancing, separate cleaning areas and drainage issues all contribute to outbreaks.

So please help us, every gift moves us closer to completing our new shelter and hospital. Every donation moves us closer to being able to provide more aid to cats and kittens, and save many more lives.
